Each Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.at the library

Tutoring
Tutoring by certified teachers is available at the library each Thursday afternoon by
appointment.  Contact Lisa Leuck at 426-5313 for more information.


Birthday Book Club-
Join the library’s Birthday Book Club!  For a donation of $10, your special birthday
person can choose a book to be placed in the collection, and a special book plate in
their honor will be put inside.  The birthday patron will be the first to check out the
book, their picture will be displayed in the library, and they will be invited to a birthday
party just for members at the end of the year.

Elgin's Walter Kohler Memorial Public Library
includes the following materials for the public.
Historical and Genealogical Materials
at the Elgin Public Library, Elgin, Iowa :
History of the Community :
Elgin Then And Now
The library's historical and genealogical
materials are located in the Northeast
corner of the library building.
Extensive County Histories are available for Fayette
and Clayton Counties, which include
images of residents and historic scenes from the area.
Church Cemetary Records are available for the
Apostolic, Christian and Illyria and  Highland Churches.
Information about contact persons and information
about other cemetary records available upon request.
Elgin residents have compiled extensive research into
local area history including obituaries and photographs
and have willingly shared these materials with the
public library. They can be located in the ELGIN
HISTORY area of the northeast corner.
Genealogical materials from the collection include a
large collection of local family scrapbooks.The two
boxes on top of the bookcase contain materials on
how to conduct genealogical research.
Video interviews of present and past
residents
about Elgin history were taped
between 1998-1999
The library has collected microfilm
of the Elgin Echo
dating back to 1891
The Elgin historical society is
located directly
to the north of the Elgin Public
Library.
Between the library and historical society,
this mural shows the places from which the
original residents of Elgin emigrated and
includes names of many of the original
families.
